## ✏️ Edits that preserve the original
- Photo edits keep EXIF metadata

- Album pages stay in place while you browse around

## 📤 Backup improvements
- Backup status now shows per-file progress
- Large multipart uploads use less memory and are more reliable
- On iPhone, Backup mode keeps the app awake with a dimmed screen until a large backup finishes

* External knowledge packs that Ensu can use to provide more accurate answers

* You can enable them by going to Settings -> Ensu Packs

Please try it out and let us know what you think about this, and how can we improve this.

**What's next**

We shipped an update to Ente Photos this week with a fresh coat of paint.

We've been meaning to evolve our design system toward something more fun and relaxed for a while now. Over the last two weeks, we finally got it done. Here's what changed:

* **Refreshed visuals** - buttons, text fields, screen titles, icons, colours, and typography have all been updated to make the app easier on the eye.
* **All albums in one place** - your albums (including on-device and shared) now live on a single screen, listed all at once so you don't have to tap a chevron every time to see your full collection. Links, Uncategorised, Hidden, and Archived are grouped under **More**.
* **A dedicated Feed tab** - replacing the old Shared Albums tab, so it's easy to see what your loved ones are sharing, reacting to, and commenting on.
* **Updated bottom navigation** - new icons and a less rounded look for a more premium feel.

We're still rolling this new design out across the rest of the app, so you'll see more of it in upcoming updates. Eventually it'll come to all our apps on every platform, giving all Ente products a consistent feel while making design and development much faster.

We'd love to hear your thoughts! We're still refining things, so your feedback is genuinely valuable. 🙏

Here's everything we've shipped across Ente products over the past few weeks.

# <:Ente:1355149346093535454> Ente Photos
Lots of under-the-hood improvements, along with a couple of new features to make the experience even better.

- **Pick photos from other apps** - Your Ente library can now be used as a source for supported 3rd party apps like WhatsApp. When any app asks for a photo, you can choose Ente Photos as a source and pick photos directly from your library.
- **Review from your camera app** - Take a shot, see it in Ente. Photos you capture show up immediately for review. Anyone who lives in their camera will feel the difference. Support for this will depend on the camera app you use though.
- **Memory Lane improvements** - Memory Lane now surfaces more of the people in your life. We have also made the animations a lot smoother on the web.
- **Gallery scrolling** - Improvements in the app and networking layers that make the gallery feel smoother than before.
- **High-res photos** - Updated our image viewer to support high resolution images, on both low and high end devices.
- **Snappier map view** - Your memories on the globe, with noticeably faster load times.
- **Faster Memories viewer** - Memories will now load instantly. We have also added haptics for a little extra delight as you flip through.

A big update for Locker, where we shipped a bunch of things you asked for.

- **Legacy Kit** - You can now create a Legacy Kit and share it with 3 trusted people in your life. Any 2 of them can come together to recover access to your account.
- **Share collections as links** - You can now share an entire collection as a link, with options for password gating, link expiry, and more. End-to-end encrypted, of course.
- **Keep critical items offline** - Sometimes you need that ID card exactly when your internet connection breaks. For such moments, we have added an option to keep your most critical documents available offline, so you can access them no matter where you are.
- **Locker on the web** - ICYMI, we launched a web beta for Locker at https://locker.ente.com.

- **Proton Authenticator** - Ente Auth now supports import from Proton Authenticator, including encrypted exports.

Ensu got a big update as well.

- **Gemma 4 support** - The newest kid on the block is now the default on desktop and a preset on mobile. Noticeably sharper at reasoning and instruction-following, while still running comfortably on consumer hardware.
- **Talk to Ensu** - Our thoughts are best expressed through our voice. Ensu now lets you speak your queries directly, with voice transcription that runs completely on-device. Try it out!
- **Faster image processing** - We rewrote Ensu's image processing pipeline to make it a lot faster. No more waiting for answers after you upload an image and ask a question.
- **Faster model downloads** - Some love also went towards the initial model download mechanism, which is now way faster and smoother.

Hi @everyone, we’re excited to announce **Ensu**, Ente’s local LLM app.

Ensu is our first step toward a private, personal AI that runs entirely on your device. No ads, no tracking. Just an LLM that works offline and keeps your conversations with you.

This is an **Ente Labs** project, and has some rough edges. The intent is to build in public and iterate on feedback. The app is open source, cross-platform, and powered by a shared Rust core. Encrypted sync and more advanced workflows are on the roadmap.

Managing your shared albums just got a whole lot easier.

* Public links can now be created and shared by Ente users on the free plan
* We had earlier restricted links for free users to prevent abuse
* There is a device limit of 5 for viewing links, which will prevent abuse while taking care of genuine cases

* You can now tag people manually even if they are not in photos
* This has been a highly requested feature, especially when you have shared a moment with someone not in the frame
* Some folks in the team are using this to tag their pets, though you can only do it if atleast one pet face is detected by the on-device AI

* You can now pin shared albums too
* Album links would be visible to other participants so they can copy and share if needed
* An updated photo view design and a new favorite icon to make room for upcoming features (Guess what?)

We've added a custom lock screen to mobile, that supports PINs and passwords. So you can protect your photos with either of these, instead of your device lock screen. Check out `Settings > Security > App lock` to get started.

## Select all ✅

We've added an option to select all items in the gallery that you're viewing. This should help with bulk updates and organization.

## Google Takeout improvements ⚡

We've shipped significant performance improvements to our Google Takeout import. Uploading the data you've exported from Google Photos will now be a breeze.

## Export enhancements ↕️

Speaking of portability, our data export feature is now more resilient. Ente's desktop app will gracefully recover from failures and make sure that it is easy for you to maintain a local copy of your data.

## Self hosting 🧑‍💻

Our desktop and mobile apps now support connecting to a self-hosted instance. You no longer have to build from source, a few clicks is all it'll take.

## Video metadata ⏯️

We've added support for parsing and viewing metadata from videos. This means we can now reliably parse location data and put them on the map. This change also takes us one step closer towards providing a first class experience for videos.

# Ente Photos v0.9 <:lilducky:1069841394929238106>
One of our final pitstops as we inch closer to **v1.0**.
We've packed a bunch of beautiful features into this release, and we hope it'll make your day (or week)!

## Video editor ⏯️

This release introduces a video editor for our mobile app that will help you trim, crop and flip your videos. The editor works completely offline, and will help you accomplish your routine editing tasks.

## Passkeys 🔐

You can now secure your Ente accounts with passkeys and hardware keys. Head over to `Settings > Security > Passkeys` to get started. Please be mindful that passkeys has not gained widespread adoption, so save your recovery key if you haven't already!

## Large file explorer 🔍

The ability to "sort by size" was a highly requested feature. So we've added an option to view and clear unimportant files that are consuming your space. Check out `Settings > Backup > Free up space`.

## Send link ✨

This release also adds a bit of magic to link sharing. Select the photos you wish to share and click on `Send link` to make someone's day! 🎁

# Launching Auth v3.0 🚀
This is a major release for Auth, where we've shipped some much requested features, and polished some corners.
We hope you'll enjoy these improvements!

## Logo 🎨

We've crafted a logo for Auth, one that paints a better picture for what it stands for. It's gotten us a while to get here, and we've spent an unreasonable amount of time looking at pixels before picking this one. We hope you like it as much as we do!

## Tagging #️⃣

You can now organize your codes with tags ("Work" , "Personal", "Social", ...), and easily find what you're looking for. You can attach multiple tag to the same code, and all of this information will sync across your devices, end-to-end encrypted.

## Pinning 📌

Starting v3.0, you can pin your favorite / most frequently used codes to the top, to make sure they're always a single tap away. Just swipe right on a code to Pin / Unpin it. This information is also preserved, end-to-end encrypted.

## Steam codes 🎮

Steam comes with a non-standard protocol for it's second-factor codes, but starting this release we've added support for their format as well.

## Desktop support 🐧

Starting this release, Auth should be working flawlesly on all Linux variants. If you run into any issues, please create an issue on [our Github](https://github.com/ente-io/ente).

## Website! 🧑‍💻

Last, but not the least, we've launched a website for Auth. This is something we have poured a lot of love into, so do check it out and let us know how it looks! Also, we hope this will make it easy to share Auth with your friends!

## Cast albums to TV 📺

You can now view a slideshow of your albums on ***any*** big screen. If you have a Chromecast device on the network, Ente will auto-pair. You can also open up `cast.ente.io` on any screen, and enter a 6 digit code to present an album.

## Organize shared items ❤️

You can favorite them, add them to your own albums, and organize them like yours. When you perform these actions, Ente will copy the shared items into your account, so they turn into hard copies that you own.

## Machine Learning ⚡️

We've shipped massive performance improvements to **Magic Search**. We've also updated our on-device Machine Learning infrastructure to make sure inference only runs when your device is healthy (in terms of battery and temperature).

If you haven't already, please enable the feature from `Settings > Advanced > Machine Learning`, and let us know if you face any jank.

## and more ✨

This release also comes packed with some quality-of-life improvements around Android widgets, background sync, search screen, gallery load-times and downloads; and the adoption of Material You components.

- We've increased the storage included within Ente's free trial from 1 GB to **5 GBs**. We've also reset your trial timer, so you've 365 more days to explore the free space 🙂

- You can now view the location where a photo was clicked, within the Info section
- You can also search for popular cities (eg. "Zurich", "New York") to discover photos
